AN INCREASE IN THE NUMBER OF UNIVERSITY DROPOUTS

Task : There has been an increase in the number of university dropouts. Explain why this has happened and give specific examples from your own experience.
          It is widely believed that entering universities has become easier than ever before. However, some people appear not to be interested in their studying after passing the entrance exam; therefore there has been an increase in the number of university dropouts. In this essay, I would like to focus on two main reasons contributing to this problem.
          First of all, stressful learning environment is one significant factor. A large number of students cannot get on well with the new studying method at college because it is quite different from high school where they are usually too dependent and inactive. Lecturer cannot always show students how to study as the teachers at high school. It comes as a shock to new comers, so they fail to adapt to it. Moreover, studying seems to become a burden to many people when they are put under high pressure from the start. There is a huge deal of difficult homework and deadline in a semester so that ones have only a little free time left for entertainment. The more pressed they are, the less effectively they concentrate on studying. Consequently, those students may not catch up with their studying program as well as other ones in the class. Finally, they quit.
          What's more, financial problem takes a vital rule in student's decision whether to stay or leave universities without money from their parents. In addition, they find it hard to earn enough money to support their studying. It is such a pity if they could not pursue their dream only because of their family's poverty. The best solution in this case is doing a part time job. However, should people fail to balance between studying and working, it will have a bad effect on their result at school as well. For those reasons, students are likely to stop their studying.
          In conclusion, there are so many reasons causing dropping out of universities including two crucial ones; learning environment as well as finance. No matter what people choose, it is important to carefully consider their options before making up their mind.
